This location is always busy, so expect to wait. Other than that, our order was complete and tasty. We ate well-cooked and seasoned tacos de asada with green onions on the side (too good to remember to snap a picture). Their accompanying salsas are excellent. The proportions of my fruta rayada (carrots, cucumbers, and jicama) were perfect, and the flavor was enhanced by the lime and chamoy. For my preference, music is a bit too loud.

Never never had I been to a Mexican dessert shop. I was the odd person there being Chino. It was packed. I ordered a smoothie and a cup of Banana Split ice cream. Soooooo good. Definitely will be back.

18th streets crowning jewel. The thing about Tropicana on 18th street is that it's way better than a lot of the crappier Michocana-type places you'll typically go to for Antojitos. NOTE: Go to the one on 18th street, I don't recommend any of the other Tropicanas in Kansas because the good one is in Wyandotte. Period. I've been going here since 2012 (before they expanded) and it's the best place for antojos around. They've expanded the menu a lot over the years but I can't say I've ever had anything here that wasn't like 8/10 at least. I moved away from Kansas recently and I miss this place like crazy because a lot of other little antojos spots just don't have ice cream that's as good, this size of menu, or stuffed churros. Also: there's always a line. Get over it. Stuff to try: Cajeta churros Milkshakes are Tropiquesasilla with chicken (the orange sauce is )

I've been here multiple times before, but yesterday was the 4th stop of a taco crawl that I conducted for a group of friends. Paleterias Tropicana is the perfect place for dessert, a snack or just to satisfy a sweet tooth. Tons of exotic ice cream flavors, fresh fruit "cocktail" concoctions and churros. They serve actual food...tacos, tortas, elotes... but I've only done fruits and sweets. Yesterday I split an order of Caramel churros with friends and had a gazpacho - a blend of small fresh fruit chunks, OJ, hot sauce and tajin. Wow. PT is real treat and a great alternative from traditional ice cream or juice shops.

This place is poppin! I've stopped by twice and both times had lines to the door so be prepared to wait. When you enter inside you're welcomed by bright colored walls and large TVs displaying their menu. Once you get to the counter displaying all of their yummy flavors of ice cream you can order. If you order food you may be given a number to said on the food (I haven't tried their food yet!) If you order churros you'll be directed to the churro counter. Here is where I had my "issues" I had a hard time ordering because the lady I got didn't speak English so she had to find someone else that could help me and even that lady didn't seem too sure. Then when I got to the churros counter the lady there was overwhelmed and in a hurry. I got my churros, took them home (roughly about 10-12 min away) and pulled one out to see all of the fillings had melted through to the end of the bag, it was disappointing. The filling was scorching hot and everything was done in too much of a rush.

I really like this Paleterias Tropicana location! It's spacious and has lots of seating, and there's a big parking lot for the shopping center - major advantages over the Southwest Blvd location. I came here on a summer night so the line was nearly out the door, but it moved fast enough, and that gave me plenty of time to decide what I wanted to order from their massive menu. It was delicious as always, and this is one of the places I miss most after moving away from KC. P.S. - the gansito ice cream flavor has cake pieces in it and is awesome.

I only found out about this location because of my spanish speaking friends. This restaurant is a dime in a dozen! They have authentic Mexican/Latin-American deserts that I honestly don't even though the names of. Some of the more familiar ones include churros, different types of ice cream, and the infamous fruit cocktail desserts. I decided to branch out and be brave, and got the mangonadas especial. Which was essentially a mango ice cream dessert, smothered in actual mango slices and a spicy chile powder that balanced the sweetness nicely. I can't wait to try this location are more because they have so many great dessert options! Everything is made fresh in front of you and the staff is very friendly.
